Load Planner

Summary:

This position will report to the Load Engineering Manager and is primarily responsible for assisting in the planning of daily trips, driver and tractor assignments as well as analyzing the execution of plans to improve efficiencies and effectiveness.

Job Description:

  • Tactical planning of all daily trips with goal of planning 80% of orders 3 days in advance
  • Assist Dispatching recovering distressed loads
  • Strategic and tactical driver assignments
    • Collaborating with drivers daily confirming acceptance of assignments
    • Analyze driver hours ensuring HOS compliance and that drivers earning potential is being met
    • Works with Driver Recruiting to required driver staffing in place
  • Ensuring proper equipment levels maintained in assigned areas
  • Work with Brokerage to cover excess loads and to procure revenue producing freight for our trucks where possible
  • Order creation and acceptance through company ERP system
    • Generate dedicated contract orders in company TMS and accept inbound EDI order tenders for later assignment both weekly and on an as needed basis as necessary as additional work requested from the customer.
  • Customer order/shipping schedule pattern analysis for pricing purposes
  • Audit next days schedule to insurer all applicable moves, including empty moves, are associated with the trips
  • Post execution analysis of planned trips in effort to improve operational efficiencies
  • Data entry and maintenance
    • Audit/update master orders for accuracy and applicability
    • Trip information and pre-billing data
    • Correct erroneous data
    • Updating system with Load/Trip status when necessary
    • Maintain driver records related to operations
  • Research service failures providing responses for customers and solutions for improving performance
  • Managing driver time-off requests
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Interdependencies:

This position will interact with Fleet Maintenance, Safety and Compliance, Drivers, Dispatchers and Administrative Services. This position will also have direct communications with customers.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Computer literate with ability to log key data as directed
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to follow processes and procedures
  • Highly analytical
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Geographic knowledge of north east states and ability to read maps preferred
